  • Attend the mandatory 2-day Strategic Leadership training event

Which option is right for me?

One credit typically equates to 10-hours of learning at your chosen qualification level.

An Award is the smallest size of qualification and refers to any qualification of less than 13-credits and which would normally take under 130 hours in total to complete.

A Certificate refers to a qualification size of between 13 and 36 credits and which would take a minimum of 130 hours to complete.

A Diploma is the largest qualification starting at 37 credits and requiring a minimum of 370 hours of study commitment.

  • The CHTC ‘Strategic Leadership in Practice’ Programme

    Leads to an ILM Level 7 Qualification in Leadership and Management, awarded by the Institute of Leadership & Management (ILM).

    This qualification is designed for senior leaders and those aspiring to strategic roles, offering the opportunity to develop high-level leadership capability through applied, workplace-based learning.

    Once you’ve completed the necessary taught modules and selected your qualification size (Award, Certificate or Diploma), you’ll begin working towards your assignments.

    Depending on your career objectives and time commitment, you can choose from the following qualification sizes:

    • Award: A focused introduction to key strategic leadership concepts. Ideal for those looking to develop knowledge in a specific area of strategic management.
    • Certificate: A broader exploration of strategic leadership practices, building on the Award with additional units that deepen your understanding and application of strategy at a senior level.
    • Diploma: The most comprehensive option, equipping you with a full suite of strategic management and leadership capabilities. Ideal for senior leaders or aspiring executives looking to lead organisational change and long-term strategic direction.

    Here’s what’s involved:

    1. Written Assignments

    Depending on the size of the qualification you choose, you’ll complete between one and four written assignments, each ranging from 3,500 to 4,500 words.

    At Level 7, you’re expected to demonstrate critical thinking, strategic insight, and the ability to apply leadership theory to real-world organisational challenges. Responses should blend academic rigour with practical application, drawing on your own leadership experience and context.

    2. Vocational Focus

    This is a vocational qualification, meaning your assignments are designed to be practical and relevant. While academic models, frameworks and theories are essential, you’ll be expected to contextualise your answers to reflect your professional setting and strategic responsibilities.

    3. Specialist Tutorial Support

    To help you succeed, you’ll have access to specialist tutorials with a member of our Leadership Development team. These sessions are designed to provide personalised guidance, clarify expectations, and support you in developing strong, evidence-based responses.

    4. Executive Coaching

    Our senior leadership development programmes include dedicated 1:1 coaching sessions with one of our experienced executive coaches. These sessions provide a confidential space to reflect, explore challenges, and accelerate your personal and professional growth as a strategic leader.

Leadership Modules

Level 7  in Strategic Management & Leadership Practice

We recognise that directors and those aspiring to the role, have unique learning needs. To support this, we offer a personalised learning pathway, allowing participants to select tailored modules that align with their individual development goals and build the specific skills they need to succeed. 

During the taught phase of the programme, all participants regardless of their chosen qualification option, are required to attend two mandatory modules:

  • Strategic Leadership (2 days)
  • Business Simulations & Entreprenureship Learning (1/2 day) which includes a software licence for:  Discover SimVenture Evolution which is valid for the duration of the taught phase.

Attendance at the mandatory modules provides sufficient guided learning hours to begin the Award. For those pursuing the Certificate or Diploma, additional elective modules are required. All minimum guided learning hours are fully included in the cost of the programme.
