Why this accreditation pathway

Why ILM is the best fit for Coaching & Mentoring Qualifications

ILM
Why we chose ILM for Coaching & Mentoring

As an approved centre for both ILM and CMI, we are able to choose the awarding organisation that we believe is the strongest fit for each area of professional development.

For our Coaching & Mentoring qualifications, we choose ILM.

ILM has a long-established reputation in leadership, management and workplace development, with coaching and mentoring forming a particularly strong part of its qualification portfolio. Its qualifications are designed around the practical application of coaching and mentoring in organisational settings, combining professional knowledge with the ability to demonstrate effective practice.

That makes ILM particularly well suited to the way we approach coaching and mentoring at ChTC. Our programmes are not simply about learning coaching theory; they are about developing the skills, confidence and reflective practice needed to coach effectively in real workplace situations.

For learners, an ILM qualification also provides independent recognition from an established awarding organisation, giving employers and clients confidence that their development has been assessed against defined qualification standards.

The right accreditor for the right qualification

We don't believe that one awarding organisation is automatically the best choice for every subject. As a centre approved to offer qualifications from both ILM and CMI, we select the qualification framework that we believe best complements the subject, the learning experience and the professional outcomes our learners are seeking.

For Coaching & Mentoring, that's ILM.

How it works

The Learning Experience

A clear two-stage journey from guided learning through to qualification support.

01 Phase 1

Guided Learning — Multi Module

This course is delivered across multiple guided learning modules, allowing the programme to be structured into clear stages of development.

A modular format supports progression over time, giving learners the opportunity to build understanding, apply learning between sessions and return with reflections from practice.

This approach is particularly suited to programmes that cover broader themes, multiple areas of competence or a longer developmental journey.

02 Phase 2

Undertaking Your Qualification

For those who wish to take their learning further, The Leadership Edge offers the option to progress towards a CMI Level 7 qualification. Following completion of your chosen modules and a period of reflection, you can choose to register with the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) and begin working towards the qualification.

Once registered, our fully inclusive qualification service provides expert guidance throughout the process. From understanding assignment requirements and planning your work through to assessor feedback, you will have the resources, advice and encouragement to stay focused, confident and on track.

Developed and refined over the last 15 years, our service is designed to make the process as straightforward and supported as possible, helping you translate your learning into a recognised professional qualification

Professional practice and qualification support

Supporting You to Become a Safe, Effective Coach

At ChTC, our priorities are to develop safe, effective and ethical coaches and to support you in successfully attaining your qualification.

The qualification provides an important professional foundation. Our approach is designed not only to support you in meeting its requirements, but also to help you become a safe, effective and ethical coach, with the confidence and professional judgement to apply your learning in practice.

Supervision is included in your programme fees and exceeds the ILM requirements for your chosen qualification, giving you additional opportunity to reflect on your practice, develop your skills and work safely and ethically.

We also provide tutorial support beyond the ILM requirements, alongside comprehensive guidance, resources and learning materials through our Learning Management System (LMS).

Our aim is to ensure you are fully supported throughout your training and confident and well-prepared to practise as a professional coach.
ChTC-trained coaches are equipped to stand out through safe, ethical and effective practice, supported by strong professional judgement and the confidence to work successfully with clients and organisations.
